INFO

The Niemeyer Centre is an international cultural complex designed by the Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer and opened in 2011. Conceived as a space open to all arts and knowledge, it stands out for its unique architecture that contrasts with the industrial environment of the Avilés estuary.

It comprises several buildings —auditorium, dome, tower-viewpoint and open square— that serve different cultural and public uses. Since its opening, the centre has hosted exhibitions, cinema, music, theatre and educational activities, as part of the urban transformation of the estuary and the new cultural uses developed in this area of Avilés. Currently it works as one of the main cultural spaces of the city and a connection point between cultural activity, public space and industrial landscape.
